The Oatmeal: How to Get 5 Million People to Read Your Website

One of the things professionals and small business owners always struggle at is finding ways to get their message or ideas across to the masses. Mentors are always telling us to network, to meet new people, to stand out, but how do we do that? There are a few sites I found that are completely dedicated to spreading ideas in a unique way, and two of them caught my attention: igniteshow.com, whose slogan is “enlighten us but make it quick,” and ted.com, “ideas worth spreading.”

The idea is to create small presentations at local shows or videos on their websites where you can present your ideas on things you’re passionate about. The videos are not supposed to be a sales pitch, but rather convey your ideas. Ignite, for instance, limits the presentations to 20 slides in 5 minutes.

I love this concept and I think this is a fantastic way for you to grow your network, learn from others, and market your own ideas. The video above is an example of something you can find at Ignite.

Note: I’m not affiliated to any of these sites, so if you find some other site that fits your needs better, go for it. As long as you’re putting yourself out there and making contacts, you’re on the right path. Good Luck! Be a Top Contributor!
